Wodelands Avenue project A

Description

The client’s initial brief was to renovate their home but to also consider a possible rear extension.
Our design solution included lowering the floor of the existing basement, to increase the previously restrictive head height, and allow the new lowered floor to connect into the lower rear garden.
The design opened up the floor of rear room on the entry level, to create a double height void containing a new feature staircase that leads to the open plan basement kitchen. The void space also opened up the entrance hall, where previously there was an enclosed, dark, internal circulation core.
The single storey rear extension was designed to be a contemporary addition to the original period house. The location of original rear windows was used to inform the rear extension, utilising the continuation of these aperture lines for a glazed slice through the extension.
