Description
A bespoke residence for the Sisters of Our Lady of Providence located within the grounds of Alton School, East Hampshire.
As part of a school wide masterplan; MVL have proposed a contextually sensitive, low energy new home that is to inhabit the scenic walled garden of Alton School. The proposal takes advantage of sites dramatic topography by nestling the building into the existing boundary walls; adopting the use of local brick, slate and timber species currently inhabiting the school’s woodland.
The new slate cladding juxtaposes the existing aged brick boundary, amplifying the design narrative of the new structures inhabiting old; allowing the home to become a physical expression of its unique and immediate context.
